Building subsidence can arise for a number of reasons, perhaps most common being drain failures and the influence of trees on shrinkable clay sub-soils. Occasionally building defects also give rise to movement which can be mistakenly attributed to foundation failure. Each case requires careful consideration.
The practice has access to decades of experience gained working on subsidence related cases. These involve visual assessments supported by targeted site investigations and reporting. E&M West can liaise with insurers and are able to design, specify and inspect on site to secure successful implementation of schemes of remedial work. We also have established relationships with loss assessors and work closely in the management of claims where negotiations are more protracted.
We have prepared numerous engineering reports in support of claims to the Ombudsman’s office in connection with building subsidence.
